The team behind Cafe 1001 have announced their decision to permanently close the doors of their beloved sister venue, Werkhaus, one of East London’s original warehouse party locations. Details for the closing weekend, which will take place on 14th September to 16th September are being announced in the coming weeks, sending off this iconic space in style.
Formerly known as The Back Room of Cafe 1001, since the early 2000s it has hosted a multitude of live music and DJ performances from acts such as Ed Sheeran, Nick Mulvey, Lykke Li, Solomun, Ben Klock and the late US Legend K-Hand.
Upon assuming control and re-branding the space to Werkhaus, the team faced the daunting challenge of rejuvenating a once-forgotten haven that had languished in neglect. An all night long session with the illustrious Kornel Kovacs and the electrifying album launch with PA Salieu, not to mention a wave of unforgettable club nights with some of the globes best DJs such as Call Super, Sub Focus, Conducta and Dimension, shall stand tall as resplendent highlights that shall forever be woven into to the diverse London nightlife tapestry.
Speaking about the re-launch General Manager Luca Pilato recalls; “When we took over Werkhaus we had the difficult job of re-establishing a long lost space that had been neglected. In 2020 we were about to launch a huge new calendar with Disclosure opening our Spring season with a massive 2 night show… we all know what happened next with Covid. Two years on, and despite the support of our owners, we have decided as a team that with the rising running costs combined with a reduced interest in late night drinking culture and the fact we only have limited late night events per year have made the space nonviable.”
