For family orientated fun, this has been one of our favourites. A stunning accesible festival littered with happy, animal faced, sparkly kids & equally smiling grown ups. No tantrums in sight because there was just that much to do. It had something for every age. Slick organisation and very well organised camping as well as briliant music catering for all tastes.
Friday saw us singing along to the bootleg beatles, each song must be embedded in our souls from birth as Lennon sang along beautifully! (He thought he was watching the Beatles themselves and I didn’t correct him) Sophie Ellis Bextor delighted the crowd with a hauntingly beautiful version of “like a prayer” as well as the classics “bring it back & murder on the dance floor”. Healthy spaces between acts to whizz around helter-skelters, watch the circus folk or even get the kids involved in bushcraft in the superbly organised wooden village. With hourly Yoga & cold water swimming sessions, there is time to relax and wind down. (& not hear Mummmmm for an hour) creche facilities by the hour for those who needed it!
For the electronic music fans, altern-8’s stint in the roller disco was a great way to blend the day into evening & sweat off all the carefully applied glitter! It transported us right back in time and even gave the little ones a taste of how good we had it! The sunsets between the surroundings were special and as all music finished by 12, everyone managed to sleep for a fresh start the next day. Saturday was ace. Food delicious & the free activities were plentiful! Shows, mindfulness sessions, circus folk with juggling & acrobatics were fantastic and the kids were all loving it.
The bruises on my body tell me the uni cycles are not for the middle aged beginners!!! The organisers had thought of everything & created sensory spaces & quiet activities for neuro-diverse children too. Music to take us into the afternoon came from elvis fronted nirvana with a mash up from both artists. I never thought I’d hear smells like teen spirit with blue suede shoes. Then came a Dolly Parton tribute and my 7 year old’s favourite song, Jolene! A plethora of fairground activities and then a dj set from groove armada which was perfect as the sun started setting over Weston Park. BBQ food is a must at festivals and there was a range of yummy food stalls selling all things sweet & savoury, churros. ALL the churros!. Human league ended the main stage with an energetic set of songs we had forgotten about & crystal clear vocals. What a treat!
We missed a whole load of artists due to a demanding 7 year old who had never heard of t’pau, Utah Saints or rudi-what mum? but were assured everyone brought their A-game! With not one ounce of trouble and well monitored by the authorities, this was a fantastic bestival debut from Weston Park Shropshire, a beautiful part of the country. Thank you Rob & Josie Da Bank. We will be back
