Following the release of their acclaimed new single, ‘Water (ft. Clara La San)’, Bicep have today unveiled the track’s official video from SMUGGLER director Aoife McArdle.
“We were ecstatic when Aoife agreed to work on this video. We’re both massive fans of hers going back years now. It is amazing to have a world-class director visually reimagine something you worked on and we are so happy with the end result.”
The film opens with a patient and two hospital staff journeying down an endless corridor. The sterility and lifelessness of this moment are heavily contrasted once the tempo speeds up and we start to gain an introspective look into the protagonist’s mind. McArdle takes us on a surreal and absurd journey through her psyche as the film becomes emotionally charged. We see the patient gain agency and the physical scope of the film starts to expand, each new location takes the form of a different stream of her consciousness.
“I love Bicep as artists and people so it was cool that coffee together led to making this video. It’s been particularly rewarding because we’re all from the North of Ireland and I’m proud of what they’ve achieved. “Water” made me think about existence. Life & death. Our endless anxieties and preoccupations, sometimes warranted, sometimes absurd. It’s more important than ever to have a sense of humor right now. Grateful to my brilliant lead actress, Angela Nwagbo and my whole team, particularly Black Kite for working so hard on this and of course Bicep for trusting me with their deadly music.” – Aoife McArdle
Named BBC Radio 1’s “Hottest Record in the World”, and instantly recognisable to anyone who has seen Bicep’s lauded live show in recent times, ‘Water’ is another much-lauded fan-favourite given an official release by the pair. Featuring vocals from Clara La San, who also appeared on several tracks from the BRIT-nominated duo’s #2 UK charting album ‘Isles’, ‘Water’ represents their first brand new music since that album. It’s another stand-out moment of euphoria, propelled by Bicep’s timeless production and Clara’s mesmerizing vocals towards a swirling crescendo of neon synths and driving 4×4 kicks.
Recently hailed by the BBC as “one of the biggest names in UK dance”, and renowned for their epic, immersive production and visuals from Black Box Echo’s Zak Norman, almost 1 million people will have had the chance to see Bicep play live in 2022, including headline performances at Glastonbury — where they closed the festival’s second biggest stage in front of 35k people with a now legendary set that was televised on the BBC via their online iPlayer platform — Primavera (Barcelona and Los Angeles), Parklife, Wide Awake, AVA and Field Day. They also completed a sold-out UK tour that included three headline shows at London’s O2 Academy Brixton, and two North American tours that included a sold-out show at NYC’s Knockdown Center, Portola Festival San Francisco and shows in Denver, Chicago, Austin and more.
