DJ International is the iconic record label steeped in authenticity and dance music history. It was the label that introduced the world to Chicago House, birthing it and nurturing it in its infancy, releasing the first ever House Music long player in 1986 ‘The House Sound Of Chicago’. It is a label with an outstanding discography populated by the now legendary artists of the time, untouchable DJs like Frankie KnucklesFingers Inc (Larry Heard & Robert Owens)Ron HardySteve ‘Silk” HurleyFarley ‘Jackmaster’ Funk, Joe Smooth, Darryl Pandy and Marshall Jefferson.
Now, DJ International returns to us to announce the long-awaited compilation, ‘Jackmaster 7′. The latest of a compilation series that was prevalent from 1989 – 1991. The 23-track long player recalls both its halcyon days as one of the leaders of the Chi-town sound as well as reflecting the future-facing side of the label presenting young producers including Tyler James Logsdon . Among the stalwarts are Chip ESterling Void, the late Frankie KnucklesK. Alexi Shelby as well as an anthemic re-boot of ‘Promised Land’.
The label also releases album track Paris Brightledge – How Does It Feel (Urananii) (Brightledge Ascension Mix). Paris Brightledge played a big part in the emergence of house music in Chicago, there at the beginning, from the gritty dark streets and the underground scene, to the frenetic east coast. Appearing on legendary stages from the Cheetah Club to Zanzibar, Studio 54, and The Limelight with the house music greats. The new release features his haunting and melodic voice that is now known the world over.
After relaunching in early 2021 DJ International has retained its original and inimitable founder Rocky Jones who still passionately professes the very same forward looking House music ideology he had back in the day, now with the added foresight focusing on new artists as well as reintroducing the ultimate classics of the past. Rocky Jones, was also aided by lieutenants (the late) Benji Espinozaand a teenage Chip E who were at the forefront of a movement that swept the world and changed youth culture.
With one eye on its past heritage and iconic status and a long-term view to bring us new fresh and original House music acts of tomorrow, we are sure that DJ International will once again take its place alongside the other great labels of contemporary House Music culture.
