Japanese techno legend Ken Ishii is teaming up with Dutch production duo Kamara on a forthcoming EP, Powerplay, set to be released next month.
Landing on Radio Slave’s Rekids Special Projects imprint, the single features two tracks, Powerplay and Quinten, showcasing the techno sound both artists are renowned for.
Commenting on the forthcoming EP, Ishii said, “The Kamara guys contacted me one day saying they were curious about collaborating with me. I love their releases on Tronic etc, and I instantly thought it would be interesting.
“The result is a nice combination of my glitchy sounds and Kamara’s mixing and layering techniques as a live techno performer.”
Elsewhere, Kamara added that it was a “great experience” to work alongside the revered Japanese producer.
“From the moment we connected, the ideas came. Powerplay is about mechanics, which comes through in the sounds,” they said. “The other side of the spectrum is Quinten, which delves into the creative realms. The tracks are contrasting yet entwined, making them a nicely balanced two tracks.”
Ken Ishii recently contributed a playlist of ‘top techno classics’ to 909originals’ #MyRecordBag series, which features tracks by Rhythim Is Rhythim, X-101, The Orb and more. You can find that here.
Ken Ishii & Kamara’s Powerplay drops on 14 April 2023 on Rekids Special Projects.
