Hi-NRG pioneer Patrick Cowley left an incredible body of work behind following his tragic passing in 1982, many of which have been featured on various compilations in the years since, such as School Daze, Muscle Up, and Afternooners.
Now, to mark 40 years since his death (12 November 1982), Dark Entries Records is releasing Malebox –a mini album featuring six previously unreleased jams.
Recorded from 1979-1981, the six tracks illuminate what was one of Cowley’s most creative periods.
Two of the tracks, If You Feel It and Love Me Hot were both early Paul Parker demos, while Jeanie Tracy’s vocals feature on the demo version of Low Down Dirty Rhythm, which was later re-recorded by Sarah Dash.
Elsewhere, Cowley’s talent for careful orchestration and infectious disco melodies shine on Floating and Love and Passion, which were likely demo tracks for Loverde.
The Malebox sleeve design was produced by Gwenaël Rattke, while the release also includes an air mail envelope containing a letter from Patrick Cowley to French disco producer Pierre Jaubert as well as liner notes and hand-written lyrics.
Malebox will be released on November 12, which is the 40th anniversary of Patrick’s passing. You can pre-order it here.
